Bungalow Heaven, Pasadena CA

In April of 2008 the Bungalow Heaven Historic District was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  This noted neighborhood has long been known as one of the best collections of Arts and Crafts period bungalows in the United States.

The neighborhood is comprised of over 800 homes built between 1900 and the 1930s. Originally orchards, the Pasadena boom of the early 1900s drew many midwestern middle class families to the area.  As Pasadena expanded, more homes were built in the north and east suburbs, replacing the orange groves.

Arts and Crafts Style (Craftsman Style)

Replacing the ornate Victorian architecture, these Craftsman style bungalow homes were built with simplicity, and reflected the feeling of the surrounding nature.  Many homes incorporated local materials using exposed beams and river rock.

Bungalow Heaven is a wonderful example of a neighborhood that has preserved a part of our American heritage.  Medium sized homes, friendly neighbors and quiet streets are typical of this area.  Bungalow Heaven is roughly bordered by N. Lake Avenue, E. Washington Blvd., N. Hill Avenue and E. Orange Grove Blvd.
